IBA Human Rights Institute webinar on Afghan Women at Risk
Tuesday 21 December 2021 at 2000 GMT
An important discussion:
Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, Director International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI), invites you to an online event to discuss:
- What: Afghan Women at Risk: The Threats Faced, The Help Needed, The Future Sought
- When: Tuesday 21 December, 20h00-21h00 London time.
The withdrawal of United States' and allied troops from Afghanistan changed the lives of Afghans forever. Among the most negatively affected are Afghan women who have a special place in Taliban-run Afghanistan – a place hidden from the public, a place confined to home, a place where a woman exists only as an extension of a man. The 20 years of progress on women's rights have been reversed within minutes.
Today's session will address the risks faced by women –including women judges, lawyers, journalists, activists– in Afghanistan, their needs and the future.
Panellists include:
- Baroness Kennedy QC, IBAHRI
- Fawzia Koofi, Afghan politician and women's rights activist
- Fawzia Amini, Senior judge in Afghanistan's Supreme Court
- Yalda Hakim, Anchor and Correspondent. Host of BBC World News' Impact with Yalda Hakim
- Alex Crawford OBE, Journalist, Special Correspondent for Sky News
The link to join the event will be sent shortly before the start of the discussion.
