EYBA - International Weekend 2014. Role assumed by the Barcelona YBA
In relation with the scientific program, we highlight specially the following conferences: 1.- The cultural intelligence in a context of business and giving legal advice to international clients, in which was explained the need to be aware about the importance of to know our interlocutor’s culture, in order to adapt our behaviour and to act properly; 2.- Human rights at sea; 3.- Aviation law; or 4.- Commercial Awareness.
From the cultural activities, we underline the visit to the English Parliament and the lunch at the Inns of Court.
Furthermore, at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) the main objective of the Barcelona YBA was to explain the negative impact that is having – and will have- the laws reforms the Spanish Ministry of Justice is approving and that are affecting the legal profession.
Elisabeth Batista, responsible of the International Subcommittee of the Barcelona YBA made a summarize of the laws and proposal of laws that are contributing and will contribute to the degradation of the young lawyers situation. Concretely, the Law of Professional Services, the Law of Voluntary Jurisdiction, the Law of Judicial Taxes and the Law of free Legal Assistance. Young lawyers of other jurisdictions, such as the United States, Holland, Czech Republic or Italy, shared with us their worries, since their respectives Governments are applying similar laws.
It was proposed by the BCN YBA that a common report will be prepared together with other young bar associations that are suffering the same situation.
