Young European Lawyers Academy (YELA)

The Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB), together with the Academy of European Law (ERA), is part of the consortium of the Young Lawyers European Project (YELP). Within the framework of this initiative, a new edition of the Young European Lawyers Academy (YELA) is being promoted.
Objective
The main objective of the project is to raise awareness of cross-cutting areas of EU law and to contribute to the effective and consistent application of EU law among young lawyers in private practice across Europe.
This project will organise a series of intensive courses consisting of a webinar and an eight-day seminar in Trier (Germany), providing initial training on EU law to 35 young lawyers per group. It will provide a platform for the exchange of good practice, information and knowledge, creating close contacts between young lawyers from different jurisdictions.
- YELA 1: Webinar 6 May 2025
- Intensive Couse: 23-30 June 2025
- YELA 2: Webinar 28 October 2025
- Intensive Course: 24 Nov - 1 Dec 2025
Who is the target group?
The target participants are young members of European Bars (trainee or early career lawyers).
Why should you apply?
The courses are practice-oriented and offer a mix of training methods, ranging from lectures to group exercises presented by EU and national legal experts, including experienced lawyers in private practice. The academy helps participants develop their practical understanding of the role of EU law in national legal systems, the heritage of the rule of law and their role as European legal practitioners, as well as addressing the impact of digitisation and new technologies on the legal landscape. In addition, a visit to the CJEU and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) is offered to discuss the future of law in face-to-face meetings with court judges.
Fees
For participants registering on their own or through other schools, a fee of 275€ will be charged.
Lunches, social dinners, drinks offered during the event, documentation and transfer to Luxembourg (round trip) and Strasbourg (one way) are offered by ERA.
Accommodation will be provided from Sunday evening until the end of the course for all young lawyers (either nominated or applying independently). Accommodation costs in both Trier and Strasbourg are booked and paid by ERA. Participants are asked to organise their own travel after receiving confirmation from ERA at the time of booking, and will receive a fixed contribution based on distance.
